LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — As expected, Jalen Hill, a standout at Clark High School, will play the upcoming basketball season at UNLV. The Rebels also said Thursday that Kalib Boone, a standout performer at Oklahoma State, is transferring to play alongside his twin brother Keylan, who on Wednesday said he’d be playing at UNLV.
UNLV said in a news release Thursday it has received signed commitments from both players for the upcoming season. On Wednesday, the Rebels said Keylan Boone also signed a commitment.
Hill said Wednesday on Twitter he’d be coming home to play at UNLV, but the school did not officially announce the transfer because it hadn’t received signed documents.
Coach Kevin Kruger praised the talents of both Hill, 6 foot 6, who in 67 games over the past two seasons at Oklahoma averaged 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds. He shot 49.8% last season when he was named All-Big 12 honorable mention and started all 32 games for the Sooners.
“He can guard multiple positions and has the ability to score in a variety of ways,” Kruger said of Hill, who was the 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year his senior season at Clark. “He improved each year that he was at Oklahoma, and we look forward to that continuing here at UNLV.”
Kalib Boone, 6-8, played the past four seasons at Oklahoma State. Kruger called him a “great addition” and said he liked his experience and production.
The coach said Kalib Boone is a “threat at the rim offensively, but also protects the rim on the defensive end. He has improved every aspect of his game each year throughout his career and we are extremely excited for that to continue this coming season.”
Boone started 30 of 36 games for the Cowboys last season, finishing third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.6 points while shooting 58.4% and making 75.7% of his free throws. He averaged 4.9 rebounds and 21.3 minutes.
He scored in double figures in 17 games this past season, including a career-high 27 points against No. 4 Kansas in February.
