Greg Haas

A 35-year veteran Las Vegas journalist in print and online, Greg has a background in news technology and newsroom management, as well as writing, reporting and photography. He enjoys covering crime and courts, environmental issues, public lands, government and new businesses around the Las Vegas valley. “I also have a special love for covering stories about cycling — the places to go, and the great people that are part of the Las Vegas cycling community,” he said. He came to 8 News Now after three decades at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where he helped create the newspaper’s website. He graduated from Colorado State University and worked for two years on the Texas Gulf Coast before coming to Las Vegas in 1987. When he’s not working, he likes to ride his bike around the north valley — paths, with a little mountain biking when he can. A dedicated Denver Broncos fan (he grew up in Lakewood, Colorado), he has become a hockey fan since the Golden Knights came to Las Vegas. “I’m doing my career in reverse,” he said. “I got into management early, but now I’m getting the chance to do stories that I’ve always wanted to write, and it’s more fun than I ever imagined. It’s a pleasure talking to people, and seeing the world from their perspective.” The best thing about being a journalist is the opportunity to learn something new every day, he said. “That never gets old, and it keeps me coming back for more. When I drive around town or explore a new place on my bike, I just see more stories that I have to write.”
